Road running background, with PR's ranging from a 33:52 10K in his late 40's to a record 6:41 50-miler at age 57. USATF Road Runner of the Year in 1997. Six-time national triathlon champion at Olympic distance. Four-time division champ at Ironman Hawaii, including a 10:30:53 in 1989 that broke ITU President Les McDonald's existing 50-54 record by 27 minutes.
