Bob Telfer (AUS)

Born September 2, 1944. Citizen of Australia. Three-time gold medallist, ITU World Triathlon Championship: 1991, 1995, 2000. Printer by trade. Married to Anne, also an accomplished triathlete. Two children, one grandchild. Resides in suburb of Sydney. Competed in surf lifesaving since age of 13, numerous national titles. National class rugby competitor. Became accomplished ultra runner in early 80's. Two overall wins in the Sydney to Wollongong race. Fourth in renowned Melbourne to Sydney Westfield Endurance Run; his time was six days, 13 hours. Discovered triathlon during the same time period. Finished second overall in 1987 Fosters Ironman Australia as a 43-year-old. Two division wins at Ironman Hawaii, with his proudest moment being the 9:24 in 1992 that was good for 75th overall at the age of 48. Using the age-grading scale explained on www.cooltri.com, that was equal to an 8:04 effort. Values the support and encouragement of family and "the great friendships" made in sport of surf lifesaving. Admires Nelson Mandela: "A humble person who overcame tremendous adversity". Fan of The Beatles.
