Bruno Khouri. Born February 10, 1977. Citizen of Brazil. Gold medallist, 20-24, 1999 ITU World Triathlon Championship. Undergraduate, Civil Engineering, Federal University of Minas Gerais. Single. Basketball as a teen. First triathlon in 1993; didn't really know how to swim, but saw the winner on the podium and thought "that's the place I want to be". Steady improvement, culminating in 1999 when he was Brazilian, Pan-Am, and World Champion in 20-24. In Montreal, his 1:52:04 was the fastest age group time of the day. Assesses cycling as his strength, swimming as weakness. Used cycling strength to record a 4:04 in a half-ironman in 2000. Largest influences on his life have been his mother ("she has always worked hard on everything") and triathlon coach Adriano Maron. Taste in music runs from "Sunday Bloody Sunday" by U2 to "I'll do anything for Love" by Meatloaf. If he could talk for an hour with anyone in history, it would be his father: "To tell him about my sports accomplishments, because he died before they started to happen".
