Jimmie Georgas (CAN)

Born April 2, 1926. Citizen of Canada. Gold medallist at six consecutive ITU World Duathlon Championships: 1994-99 inclusive. Streak halted by flat tire at Calais in 2000. From a family of sports nuts and thespians. Father was partner in Famous Players Theatres. Brother Louis was member of Canada's 1940 Olympic team in downhill skiing. Eldest son Chris runs small hotel in southern France, remains top masters bike racer. Daughter Marilynn was top xc skier, now Canada's 50-54 champion in duathlon. And wife Barbara recently won two gold medals at Florida State Time Trial Championships. As for Jimmie, he's been a lifelong athlete as well. Top alpine skier, alternate on Canada's 1952 Olympic team. Stints as coach of national cross-country skiing and ski jumping teams. Fifteen stage wins, five consecutive yellow jerseys in cycling at World Senior Games. Ran a 1:40 half-marathon at age 72. Inducted into three separate Halls of Fame. Assesses strength as "discipline and ability to dig deep from within and go beyond my limit". Admires Winston Churchill for his tenacity "in the face of all odds". Once forgot his cycling shorts for a race and had to borrow his wife's pink pair.
