Max Mogren. Born April 27, 1981. Citizen of the U.S.A. Gold medallist, 15-19, 2000 ITU World Duathlon Championship. Born, raised in Winona, MN. Communications major, St. Johns University in Collegeville, MN. Track background, has run 4:26 mile, 9:52 two-mile. All-American, Junior Nationals, cross-country skiing. Didn't train on the bike until the summer of 2000; a few months later, he won the duathlon gold in France. Father Ken has been leading role model: "He's fast and smart". One older, one younger brother. Best memory was the gold medal. Worst was discovering he had mono while running the Minnesota High School cross-country meet: "I wanted to win - got 56th. Poo." Tastes in music run to Mason Jennings and the Black Crowes. Loves mom's goulash and Tater Tot hotdish, admits weakness for Cap'n Crunch and Cocoa Blasts cereals. Assesses laid back nature as his biggest strength - and his biggest weakness. Likes climbing, snowboarding, mountain biking, and jumping off of high places.
