Roger Brockenbrough. Born July 31, 1934. Citizen of the U.S.A. Gold medallist, 1999 ITU Triathlon World Championship and 1999 ITU World Duathlon Championship. BS, Civil Engineering, Virginia Polytechnic Institute. MS, Structural Engineering, VPI. Resides in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, owns engineering firm. Wife is Nancy, four adult children. Not active in sports until the age of 50. Discovered running first, broke 39 minutes in 10k as recently as 1995. Took up triathlon after watching son John compete, deciding "it would be more fun to do them than just watch". John and he earned unique double in 2000, with John being named USAT's Masters Triathlete of the Year and Roger earning nod as the Grandmasters Duathlete of the Year. Roger's "dream sequence" came a year earlier, where he first passed eight competitors on the run to win the gold at Triathlon Worlds in Montreal, then returned a month later to win gold at Duathlon Worlds in North Carolina. Nightmare came just six months later, when he had to run back through the Perth transition to retrieve forgotten helmet and ended up missing the podium by 13 seconds. Musical tastes run to blues and bluegrass. If he could be transported back in history, it would be for an interview with Thomas Jefferson: "he was knowledgeable in so many areas".
