USAT's Triathlete of the Year in 1995, may be only master's athlete to have won a major Ironman qualifier outright (1998 Gulf Coast). Identifies strengths as physical power, tolerance to pain, and overwhelming need to win. Cites same syndrome as biggest weakness: "Power and aggressiveness are counter-productive in swimming, and I lack the patience needed to race Ironman". Loves Billy Joel's "Piano Man", anything by Santana, and Mexican food. Hates anchovies. Middle child in a family of 11.
