Race
Information:
Elite Women & Men will be racing through sections of Bellingham, Washington located just 85 miles north of Seattle in the upper North West corner of the United States. This ITU Points race will offer a $35,000.00 overall prize purse which will be equally distributed between male and female competitors.
The
Host Venue:
All aspects of this event will take place from Bloedel Donovan Park located on Electric Street, in Bellingham, WA. Competitors traveling to this event should exit Interstate 5 at the Lakeway Drive exit and proceed on Lakeway Drive to Electric Street. The Bloedel Donovan Park Complex sits on the shoes of Lake Whatcom in Bellingham, Washington. The host Hotel for this event is the Best Western Lakeway, located at 714 Lakeway Drive just off of Interstate 5 and just 1.2 miles from Bloedel Donovan Park host site.
Elite
Pre Race Briefing:
The elite pre race briefing for this event will take place at the Bloedel Donovan Gymnasium on Saturday, May 31st at 3:00pm. Competitors will get a first hand look at the entire race site from swim start to run finish.
Swim Course:
The elite swim course is a single loop swim mapped out in Lake Whatcom. Swimmers will leave from the beach front area and make a large loop of the 1,500 meter swim course before they exit at the boat ramp. The exit will be carpeted for your safety and convenience. Water temperatures are expected to be in the very high 60’s to low 70’s at race time.
40K
Cycling Course:
The 40K bike course will consist of 6, 4.15 mile loops of a very hilly course which is fantastic for spectators and television cameras. Each loop has 4; 90 degree turns in it and each loop consist of two major climbs. The first major climb is located as you enter Yew Street and is .4 miles in length at a 12% grade. The second major climb on this course is located on Alabama Street and is .6 miles in length at an 18% grade. To locals from Bellingham this is known as the Alabama Hill. The bike course will be monitored at all times by ITU officials and race support staff. The Wheel Pit Tent will be manned at all times by race support staff and will be located on Electric Street just outside of the transition area.
10K
Run Course:
The 10K run course is made up of two 5K loops that are moderate to very hilly. The course is an out and back on very smooth asphalt roads. Water will be available at each mile mark on the run course. Each mile will be marked with kilometer signs for easy viewing.
Transition
Area
The transition area of this event will be secured with hard fencing for protection and security in the parking lot of Bloedel Donovan Park. The elite women and men will have separate transition areas, so they can each be loaded while the other event is racing. Bike racks will be numbered for competitor’s convenience in transition.
