and Japan lined up at the Marina Park Hotel beach in
Fortaleza for the ITU International Triathlon.
Heavy rain

to the bike course which had to be adjusted as a safety
measure. A steady light rain and breeze throughout the afternoon provided
a cool setting for the race.
Hiroki
Hikida from Japan and Paulo Miyashiro from Brazil
were the first out of the water with a pack of 15
right on their heels. After the
second transition the pack continue until Macedo started to break
away on the 2nd lap.
Leandro
Macedo’s victory came on the last leg of the race
where he was closely chased by fellow Brazilians Antonio
Marcos da Silva and Virgilio de Castilho.
Macedo’s
focus and decades of racing experience paid-off on
the last 2,500 m lap, when he was able to sprint away
from Marcos da Silva, a local rising star.
Brazilians
Carla Moreno, Sandra Soldan and Mariana Ohata formed
the first pack on the bike and managed to maintain
the lead all the way to the transition. Moreno, with
a strong pace was able to get away on the first lap and keep a safe distance from
Soldan who finished 2nd followed by Ohata
in a great 3rd. place.
