Triathletes Daniel Fontana and Nancy Alvarez were the winners in the 19th International Triathlon in La Paz, Argentina.

Fontana, who was victorious last year as well, completed the 1500m/ 40km/10km in 1:52:33; while Alvarez did it in 2:13:47.

Struggling to win: Virgilio Casthilo from Brasil finished 2nd, while Oscar Galindez, showed he's back in form by finishing 3rd. They were followed by Paulo Miyashiro, Luis Catta Preta and Antonio Silva from Brasil, Ezequiel Morales from Argentina, the Brasilian Leonardo Casadio , Jeff Sneed from the USA and Marcin Werdlarski from Sweden.

Triumph was not easy for Fontana, as Casthilo was close to him untill the very end of the competition. In the last kilometre. Fontana managed to establish a difference that would favour him. Unfortunately, Oscar Galindez could have had a better result if it hadn’t been for a puncture in his back wheel when he was about to compete the final kilometers in cycling.

In the women's event, Nancy Alvarez took control of the race from the start. She posted the fastest cycle split of the day, to exit first onto the run - a position she held until the finishline. This was the first win for her at this important triathlon in Argentina.

Agnes Eppers from Bolivia was second, with Soledad Omar from Argentina 3rd

Argentinian athletes Pamela Geijo; Silvana Calcagno and Julieta Solanas were next across the finish line followed by Virginia Lopez from Uruguay.

Record entry: 720 athletes from 12 countries took part in the most important event in Argentina. Elite athletes earned points for the ITU World Ranking, as well as 6 places for the Panamerican Games to be held in Santo Domingo ( Dominican Republic).

The young ones: a great celebration of youth began a day earlier for the youngest athletes. On Friday- a day before the major event, 6 to 13-year-old athletes ran their own competition, which has become an international “classic”. Kids from Argentina and neighbouring countries participated. This event corresponds to the National Federation Juvenile calendar.
