The Amakusa Triathlon is the oldest Olympic distance event in Japan. City of Hondo had a sister city relationship with Encinitas, California, USA. ITU Triathlon World Cup was held in 1993, 1994. City mayor and degnitaries willwelcome athletes. |

The Amakusa Islands were a stronghold of Christianity during Japanfs Christian Century, in the 17th century. Host city, Hondo is the main town on the islands and has a museum relating to the Christian era. |
