GOODWILL GAMES LAUNCHES ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN

The 2001 Goodwill Games Brisbane advertising campaign - The Gods of Sport - is officially under way.

Gods of Sport features international track legends Maurice Greene and Ato Boldon and Australian sporting heroes including Grant Hackett, Tatiana Grigorieva, Jai Taurima, Loretta Harrop, Ky Hurst and Karla Gilbert.

The ads will be run nation-wide across television, radio, press, video and Qantas flights as well as appearing on more than 250 cinema screens across Australia.

Tourism Queensland is also lending its support by providing huge outdoor billboards in Sydney and Melbourne and will be running features and inserts in magazines and newspapers across Australia and dedicating part of its Internet site to the event.

Goodwill Games Chairman Wayne Goss, Games' Chief Executive Campbell Rose and Queensland Premier Peter Beattie were all on board to launch the $5 million domestic advertising campaign.

"The ads will be the primary driving force in bringing visitors to this state, " said Mr. Beattie.

"We want everyone to get the message - the 2001 Goodwill Games is the world's best sporting event this year and it's coming to Brisbane."

The advertising campaign will complement an already AUD $200 million international campaign being screened across the United States and the world through the global network of Turner Network System, the parent company of the Goodwill Games.

If you're going to be in Queensland in September and you want to voluneer, you're encouraged to register with Volunteering Queensland. You will be placed on a waiting list and will be contacted if any positions become available. This can be done via e-mail gwgb@volunteeringqueensland.org.au

50 of the world's top triathletes will be invited to compete in the Goodwill Games Triathlon on September 2nd in Brisbane, including Olympic Gold Medallists, Simon Whitfield (CAN) and Brigitte McMahon (SUI).
