Gold for Canada at Commonwealth Games
Montgomery and Whitfield wins Games titles

Canadian
triathletes made history today at the Commonwealth
Games in Manchester winning both the men's and women's
title. This was the first time at triathlon appeared
on the programme of the Commonwealth Games as a full
medal sport.
The
1.5km/40km/10km swim/bike/run event was held in Salford
Quays with the bike course going into the centre of
Manchester.
Carol
Montgomery of North Vancouver, Canada won the triathlon
event here today in 2:03.17.86. Not to be outdone,
Olympic Champion Simon Whitfield of Victoria, Canada
also made history by winning the men's event in 1:51.57.94.
Leandra
Cave of Wales was second (2:03.37.17) while Nicole
Hacket of Australia finished third (2:03.42.81) in
the women's event. In the men's event, Aussie Miles
Stewart was second (1:52.00.27) while Hamish Carter
of New Zealand was third in 1:52.04.29. Complete results
