Madeira ITU World Championship Special Edition Update -
Less Than 2 Weeks to Go!
1st till 9th May 2004, Madeira Island, Portugal

World Championship Start Lists Now Available

Elite start lists for the Madeira ITU World Championships are now available on www.triathlon.org.

As the cut off for Olympic qualification draws near, the triathlon world will be watching the results from Madeira.

In the women's event 7 of the top 10 ranked women in the ITU World Rankings will be on the Madeira start list and 8 of the top 10 ranked men will be on the start line in Madeira.

Madeira LOC Technical Recommendations

  • Athletes should prepare for a wetsuit swim, the expected water temperature is 19 degrees Celcius
  • The Age Group, Junior and AWAD course contains 3 hills; one with a 4.8% grade over 2.76 kilometers, another with a 10% hill over 1 km and the third with a 19% hill over 0.39 kilometers.
  • It is recommended that Age Group athletes use a crank set of 39T and cassette of 23 or 25T
  • Please note that athletes receive complimentary access to the events. National Federation members must purchase tickets. Tickets are available at the following link - http://www.trimadeira2004.com/tickets.travel.ph

Women's Breakfast Update from Pamela Fralick - Chair Women's Committee

Hello Friends – once again, our gracious hosts at the World Championships are coordinating the annual Breakfast on behalf of the ITU Women’s Committee – all are welcome, men and women alike! This is a wonderful opportunity to relax, share good food, hear of others’ experiences, and celebrate the role of women in our sport of triathlon. It is a tradition started a decade ago to honour master’s women athletes, and now has extended to the entire triathlon community. I hope you will be part of this year’s event!

Accreditation for National Federation Presidents

All National Federation Presidents travelling to Madeira for the World Championships must inform the organizing committee prior to April 27, 2004 to ensure appropriate accreditation is received.

  • Entry forms for the 2004 Duathlon World Championships have now been sent to all NF's. These can also be found on www.triathlon.org - and should be returned to the Belgium Triathlon Federation
