From The New Paper, Singapore "Only 11 but he Can Cycle 40 km, Run
10 km, Swim 3 km"
The following is an excerpt from the New Paper, Singapore by writer Rachel Cheng: He may only be 11 years old - but Travis Woodford can already run, swim and cycle as far as triathletes twice his age. The pint-sized Primary 6 pupil of St. Stephen's Primary School is Singapore's only national triathlete under 18 years old. The EM2 pupil cycles 40 km, runs 10 km and swims 3 km three times a week.... Last year, when Travis and his younger brother Aidan, 10, joined a children's triathlon trainig camp, he was spotted by Stephen Lee, teh honorary secretary from the Triathlon Association of Singapore (TAS) and Mr. Guo Wei Dong, the coach of the national triathlon team. Today, Travis trains five times a week - three times with TAS and once on his own." Travis said: "Before I took up triathlons, I was quite naughty in school. Sometimes I would skip classes; I'd hide in the toilet and squirt water at my friends. I couldn't sit still for long in class, and I found it hard to concentrate." Training for triathlons has made him alot more disciplined. ... Travis is thankful his parents are so supportive of his involvement in th esport. "My parents take me to all my training, and bought me my first mountain bike in Primary 4. My ambition is to win the triathlon for the 2011 SEA Games."
