Marisol Casado Attends IOC Conference on Women in Sport

On March 9, 2004 the 3rd World Conference on Women and Sport took place in Marrakech, Morocco. The ITU representative was Marisol Casado; President of ETU, ITU Executive Board member and Executive Director of the Spanish Triathlon Federation. More than 600 delegates from 137 countries were in attendance, including IOC President Jacques Rogge.

The Conference made several recommendations, the first of which reaffirmed the targets established in 1996 for the International Olympic Committee, International Sports Federations and National Olympic Committees to have at least 20% women on their executive boardsand legislative bodies by 2005.

The final conference resolution expressed a statement of regret at "the slow pace in implementing fully the action plan formulated by inter-governmental and non-governmental organisations and the lack of concrete, visible and legible actions at the grass root level." Around the Rings reported that, with only one woman, Gunilla Lindberg of Sweden - among the 14 members of the Executive Board, the IOC needs to add at least two more by 2005 to comply with its own stated goals.

TVNW Becomes International Triathlon Union’s In-House TV Arm

TVNW Media Group is beginning its first full season as the International Triathlon Union’s in-house television arm.

The Vancouver-based television production company will host-broadcast a series of events worldwide and produce the entire 16-event Triathlon World Cup series, which will be distributed by BBC Worldwide to viewers in over 100 countries. Broadcasters include mainstream networks such as BBC and Channel 5 in the UK, Canal Plus in France and Spain, TSN in Canada and ESPN in the Americas and Asia.

TVNW began operating in Vancouver in 2002 and since then, it has become the official host-broadcast company of the local A-League (men’s) and W-League (women’s) soccer clubs, the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Last November, TVNW provided host-broadcast coverage of the 2003 World Weightlifting Championships, which recorded the largest television audiences of any International Weightlifting Federation championship to date.
TVNW offers worldwide television experience at competitive rates and is positioning itself to play an important role in Vancouver’s lead-up to the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Other projects for 2004 include Canada’s premier track and field series of events, the PacifiCanada series, and the Fédération Internationale d’Escrime’s Fencing World Cup in Vancouver.

Earlier this year, TVNW production staff, including managing director Martin Perry, had a pivotal role in UK broadcaster Channel Four’s highly successful FIS World Cup winter sports programming for 2003/2004. Perry led a skilled team that produced eight hours of winter sports television each week for the broadcaster, one of Europe’s leading commercial stations.

TVNW’s success in attracting high profile production contracts comes in part from its dual PAL / NTSC capacity, unique in North America, and its in-house post-production facilities, as well as low Canadian overheads and a competitive dollar.

In addition, Perry has a long track record of coordinating host broadcast coverage of events, including international soccer, track and field, golf, basketball, cricket and winter sports. His credits include World Cup soccer and rugby union and the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

Perry recently produced a ground-breaking DVD package for the world’s leading video game producer, Electronic Arts. He also produced the BBC’s coverage of the Gravity Games, giving new sports (including BMX riding, skateboarding and wakeboarding) their biggest ever audience on UK TV. Additionally, TVNW produces corporate videos for major companies.
