Acapulco Pan American Triathlon Championships - On This Weekend
Beautiful Acapulco, Mexico is the focus of the triathlon world this weekend as athletes begin to arrive for the Pan American Triathlon Championships on Saturday, March 20.

The start list is just in and pre-race favourites include Americans Sheila Taormina, currently ranked third in the ITU World Rankings and Hunter Kemper, currently ranked 11th.

In the women's event Brazillian teammates, Carla Moreno and Sandra Soldan will provide Sheila with some strong competition. Carla finished the 2003 season on a high note, winning the Queenstown ITU Aquathlon World Championship and Rio ITU World Cup.

In the men's event Leandro Macedo (BRA), Daniel Fontana (ARG) and Doug Friman (USA) all ranked in the top 35 are good bets for the podium.

Note for the athletes - Packet pick up is at the Acapulco Convention Center; Friday March 19 at the Olinala Saloon from 14:00 to 17:00 hrs. The manditory pre race meeting follows at 17:00 hrs.

The elite women begin at 8:00 am (local time) the men at 10:15 am (local time).

ITU Official Apparel Supplier

2004 Uniform Guidelines
Thank you to the many federations who have sent in their 2004 World Cup and World Championship uniform design for approval. To date all of the unforms have been well within the 2004 guidelines and are the clean, well branded look that we require of all athletes who compete in events of this nature.

We will accept front zippers on the one piece suit, provided that the zipper is not opened beyond what a normal scoop necked swimsuit would be.

The photo at URL http://www.triathlon.org/world-cup/wcup2003/madeira/gallery-men-fx/pages/TRIMASC100_jpg.htm is being used to train officials and inform athletes about what is acceptable.

In the photo:

  • Ivan Rana (front zipper lowered) - A-OK
  • Matt Reed (separation between top and bottom) - A-OK
  • Daniel Unger (front zipper lowered) - not acceptable...he would be pulled over by officials and required to do his zipper up!
  • All sponsor logos comply with the rule.

We will allow the full country name instead of the 3 letter country code.

We will also be flexible with the athlete's surname on the front. It is, however, something that we will "strongly encourage" as we build heroes in our sport. With the World Cup Television show going out to in excess of 1 billion potential home, it's important to promote name recognition of all the athletes.

With sponsor logos, the space will be measured when the suit is on the athlete, not off as in the past.
