29, 2004 - Madeira ITU World Championships - Special Edition Update
The 2004 ITU Triathlon World Championships are rapidly
approaching - each Monday between now and the event the ITU Update will
contain important information to ensure you are ready for the largest
ITU event of the season.
The Madeira World Championships will be held on May 8 -
9 - we are now only 39 days away!
World Championship Registration Deadline - April
1
A reminder to all National Federations that April 1, 2004 is the
registration deadline for the 2004 Madeira ITU World Championships.
Registrations must be accompanied by wire payment and the entry fee must
be paid in EUR or USD (USA only), other currencies will be declined. The
Entry Fee is 162.00 EUR per athlete or 200.00 USD (USA only) per athlete.

All registration forms are to be completed by the National Federation.

New Madeira Course Maps Now Available
New course maps have been posted on www.trimadeira2004.com under the course details section.
The elite and U23 course consists of a 2 lap swim, 8 lap bike and 4 lap run; Age Group athletes will complete a 1 lap swim, 1 lap bike and 3 lap run while the Junior athletes complete a 1 lap swim, 1 lap bike and 2 lap run at half the distance.
Training
Opportunities
Swim - The swim course will be
available April 24 - May7 and is monitored by lifeguards May 1 - 7 from
9:00am - 6:00pm
Bike - Recommended bike training times are
from 9:30pm - 7:30am; the streets are busy and a helmet must be worn while
training; do not train on the highway
Run - Athletes must not run on
the roads, a path is available between Lido and Praia Formosa or the Barreiros
Stadium features an 8 lane track
Madeira Travel Information
The Madeira
International Airport is located 22 km outside of Funchal. Viva
Travel will provide airport transfers to and from the host hotels at a
discounted rate of 11.00 EUR each way. This transfer fee includes transportation
for you, your luggage and your bike.

The
Parade of Nations & Opening Ceremonies
All National Teams are invited to attend the Parade of Nations and Opening Ceremonies
The event will take place in downtown Funchal on Thursday May 6, beginning at 5:30pm.
All National Teams should wear their team uniforms and bring a country flag. Teams must meet at 5:00pm in the parking area of the Carlton Park Hotel (Host Hotel) by the Centro de Congressos. Each team will be given their country banner at this time.
The Parade of Nations will begin in the parking area of the Carlton Park Hotel and continue to the Parque Santa Catarina where the formal Opening Ceremonies will be held. The Pasta Party. featuring Madeiran folk dance and fireworks, will follow the Opening Ceremonies.
