ITU News Update: 31 March, 2004: MADEIRA SPECIAL

  1. Madeira ITU World Championships - Special Edition Update: The 2004 ITU Triathlon World Championships are rapidly approaching - each Monday between now and the event the ITU Update will contain important information to ensure you are ready for the largest event of the ITU season.
  2. World Championship Registration Deadline - April 1: A reminder to all National Federations that April 1, 2004 is the registration deadline for the 2004 Madeira ITU World Championships.
  3. New Madeira Course Maps Now Available: New course maps have been posted on www.trimadeira2004.com under the course details section.
  4. Training Opportunities: A swim, bike, run schedule has just been posted - lots of opportunities to train on the course.
  5. Madeira Travel Information: Click here for closest airport, hotel accommodations and much, much more.
  6. The Parade of Nations & Opening Ceremonies: All National Teams are invited to attend the Parade of Nations and Opening Ceremonies. The event will take place in downtown Funchal on Thursday May 6, beginning at 5:30pm

ITU News Update: 28 March 2004
  1. Conrad Stoltz and Megal Halls Win Olympic Spots: The best-ever African Regional Triathlon Championships were held this past weekend and for the first time www.triathlon.org provided live coverage of the important Olympic Qualifying event for Africa.
  2. Virgina Berasategui and Javier Rosas Win in Valle de Bravo: The ITU International Triathlon at Valle de Bravo is a familiar stop on the annual ITU calendar, with one of the most challenging bike courses around.
  3. Asian Regional Championships
    More Olympic spots will be up for grabs next weekend with the ASTC Championships in Subic Bay, Philippines.
  4. World Rankings and Olympic Simulation: Enrique Quesada, ITU Rankings Manager has posted updated World Rankings after the African Regional Triathlon Championships and the Valle de Bravo ITU International Triathlon
  5. WADA Modifies List of Prohibited Methods and Substances:
    David Howman, Director General of WADA writes: Following a recommendation from the Chair of the WADA Health, Medical and Research Committee, and after approval by the WADA Executive Committee, WADA is issuing a modified version of the 2004 List of prohibited methods and substance.

  5. Edmonton 2004 ITU/ IOC Solidarity Camp: Stephen Boudreau writes that Solidarity Camp is already half full. Head Coach Jackie Gallagher is expecting a full house.
  6. World Cup 2004: The points system for the 2004 World Cup has been released - the best athletes of the year will be declared by this system.
  7. 2003 World Cup Winners: Emma Snowsill and Vladimir Polikarpenko will be honoured in Madeira for winning the 2003 World Cup

  1. NF Survey Update: NFs who return their competed survey's to ITU Headquarters by 31 March will receive a free dvd of the recently released ITU Kid's Training Video.
  2. Therapeutic Use Exemption Forms: This is a very important matter for athletes who suffer from exercise induced asthma - new forms are available on www.triathlon.org. Make sure all affected athletes have the news in to ITU Headquarters by 6 April 2004
