Double Czech Victory!

The 6th edition of the World University Triathlon Championship ended yesterday August 11th, 2002, and it was a huge succes.

It was the first time an Asian country staged the World University Triathlon Championship. The five previous editions were all held in Europe. Apparently, triathlon is a popular sport in Japan since the Japanese Triathlon Union counts more than 10,000 members. More than 10 % of its members compete in the national Student Triathlon Championships, 1,380 from 120 universities to be exact! The Japanese University Triathlon Union organizes eight regional championships and one national. Since the city of Nanao Bay has organized this national championship for the last two years it has gained a lot of know-how.
