Athletes Briefing Details

ITU Technical Delegate, Leslie Beckerman and Event Chair Scott LeDrew announced today the details of airport pick-up, the compulsory athlete registration, briefing and the pontoon draw. If you have any questions, please contact Courtney Blundon at the Toronto World Cup office, email torontotri@sympatico.ca.

Athlete Registration and Briefing (compulsory): The Athlete Registration and Briefing is at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, 5 July at the Four Points Sheraton Lakeshore Hotel (host hotel). At this time athletes will be required to present their race uniform to Technical Officials to ensure sponsor makings and surname on bottom back is within the requirements of the ITU Uniform Guidelines. The bike inspection will take place on race morning.

The Pontoon Draw, Opening Ceremonies and Reception: Immediately after the Athlete Registration and Briefing, athletes will be transported from the host hotel to the Nike Store for the Opening Ceremonies and Pontoon Draw, which will also be a reception and media event. The activities will get underway shortly after 8:00 p.m., with the pontoon draw scheduled for 8:45 p.m. Athletes will be transported back to the host hotel at 9:30pm.

Airport Pick-up: Send your arrival details immediately to Louise Aubin, Coordinator of Athlete Services at email llashley@idirect.com so airport pick-up can be arranged. Athletes who require airport transfers should note the following (from event details sheet): Airport Pick-Up: All athletes are requested to go to the Toronto World Cup Office at the Sheraton Airport Hotel (located at TERMINAL 3 OF THE TORONTO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT). The World Cup office at the airport will be open from Tuesday July 3rd to Friday July 6th. Upon arrival, Athletes must take the free shuttle service from their arrival terminal to TERMINAL 3 SHERATON HOTEL (1-2km). At the Sheraton Hotel ask for Barrie Shepley’s Toronto World Cup Room. Once at the office, volunteers will coordinate transportation to the race hotels or homestay drop off.

Airport Drop Off: Transportation back to the airport will be provided from both hotels all day Sunday.

Training on the Course: A special training session has been arranged for all athletes to test out the course on Thursday, July 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The swim session will begin at 10:00 a.m, followed by an escorted bike training session and a run.
